Mr.K.T.Thomas (as he then was) came to Baroda in 1966 with a UGC Scholarship to pursue his Master’s in Education in M.S.University, Baroda.
After his M.Ed he took over the reins of Babyland School in Alkapuri and gained enough experience to run a school. In 1969 due to his initiative Basil School was started in Baroda by the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. Basil school made a name of its own during the initial years itself.
In 1970 Mr.K.T.Thomas was ordained as a priest and became Fr..K.T.Thomas.
In 1973 the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd approached Fr. K .T .Thomas to take over their Gujarat Refinery English Medium School. He gladly took over the management of the school, at that time Gujarat Refinery English Medium School was up to Std.IX and Basil School upto Std-V.
In 1974 he came out from Basil School to concentrate more on Gujarat Refinery English Medium School, since the students were to be presented for the Board Examination in 1976.
He presented his first batch in 1976 and secured 100% result. This tradition is maintained even today.
In 1981, the parents of an English Medium School in Halol approached him to take over their school. He took over the school in June 1981 itself and named it MGM School, Halol. The School is now up to Std.XII with both the streams. The school has its own building, spacious plays ground and an open air auditorium.
In 1985 Fr. K .T .Thomas was elevated as a Bishop by the church with the name Thomas Mar Athanasios.

In 1983 the Petrofils Management requested him to start an English Medium Primary School in their Township in Petrofilsnagar, Baroda. As per their request St. Paul’s English Medium School was started. Another trust was given the responsibility of starting a Gujarati Medium School in Petrofils Township. After two years, Petrofils management handed over the Gujarati Medium School also to the The Society of St.Basil, it was named St. Paul’s Gujarati Medium school.
Subsequently, at the request of the Petrofils Management an English Medium School named St. Paul’s School was started at in Ankleshwar in their township. Later it was shifted to kosambadi in Ankleshwar and it is now an Higher Secondary school with its own buildings, play ground etc.
In 2009 a CBSE school was started in Refinery Township, Baroda, as per the request of the Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
Now there are five schools under the management of The Society of St. Basil.
Late His Grace Thomas Mar Athansios had dedicated his life to give to the society enlightenment through quality education. The path he had chosen and the goal set by him had the maxim “ Upasana, Swadhyaya, Seva’’ His sole aim in life was to lay the foundation for the all-round development of the young citizens of our country without any discrimination on the basis of religion, caste or gender.
His Grace had taken several mediocre students into his fold and made them shine in life. Today there are hundreds of ‘his students’ who are successful Doctors, Engineers, Architects, Researchers, Teachers, Lawyers and various other professionals.
He was a disciplinarian and demanded discipline from others as well .His continuous guidance to his teachers on education programmes and planning, introducing innovative teaching methods and a loving approach to children had helped them to blossom into good human beings and responsible citizens.

The maxim of St. Paul’s School is “Gyanaam ve Brahma, Gyanaam Upashasya” i.e “Knowledge is Brahma, Worship it”

    From Principal’s Desk

    Dear Parents, Colleagues and Students,

A Warm welcome for the session 2018-2019 with hopes of success and learning’s of new dimensions. Let us begin this year with new zeal and expectations for scaling higher standards keeping in mind our core beliefs i.e. our vision and mission to impart sound education and to provide an overall healthy, vibrant and a conducive environment to learning and to prepare the students to live and act as responsible and patriotic citizens of India.

Education aims to provide the right environment to grow beyond academics, to master theory, yet provide a platform for applications that will help both the student and the teacher move towards more concrete goals.

We believe that education is not about more importing knowledge but more about opening the child’s mind to self expression. I have realized that with little hard work, some attention from parents, guidance and a word of appreciation from the teachers make the process of learning easier, acceptable and enjoyable.

The school always tries its best to maintain the highest academic standard and provide as wonderful environment for curricular and co-curricular activities… I would like to conclude with the words of Albert Einstein: “ Imagination is more important than knowledge. For a while knowledge defines all we currently know and understand, imagination points to all we might yet discover and create.”

I wish each one of you’re a grate year ahead.

Together we will have to move along, as we all sincerely believe to reach higher.

    Jai Hind.
